Growing the Team to Serve Central Appalachia

Join us in welcoming two new team members who are bringing deep roots, bold vision, and mission-aligned talent to Invest Appalachia!

Paul Wright joins Invest Appalachia as Director of Investment, bringing decades of experience in CDFIs, entrepreneurship support, and mission-driven capital. Based in Berea, Kentucky, Paul holds an MBA in Economic Development from Eastern University and has previously worked at Mountain Association and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). Through his coaching practice, he served as lead facilitator of the Community Investment Training, a partnership between the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and Invest Appalachia, among other projects. He will lead our investment strategy, oversee portfolio development, and ensure our capital reaches the people and places that need it most.

Lauren Sowers joins as Strategic Communications Manager, with a background in narrative change, research, and peacebuilding. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, and with roots across the Appalachian region, Lauren earned a narrative-focused M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. She brings a powerful lens for storytelling, impact, and community voice.

With Paul and Lauren on the team, we’re growing our organization’s ability to advance our mission, while deepening our commitment to local voices, strategic storytelling, and capital that meets communities where they are.
